Olin

In 1980, KORD radio moved to the Olin Arts and Communication building. Concordia students were able to play any music (their own or professional), broadcast special events, and provide live coverage of sporting events. (14) In 1981, the KORD staff wanted to keep listeners entertained so they added a show that played the top 40. (15) By 1988 there were sixty DJs and one of the shows was called “spinning live.” The staff also started a tradition called the “beanie tent” that KORD radio sponsored to recruit incoming freshmen. The beanie tent is a campus wide event where all the student organizations gather to influences first years to join their club. A woman directed Concordia’s radio station for the first time in 1992, with student Kari Green holding this position. (16) Since that time, the only other female station managers have been Stephanie Boen (2002) and Hope Brown (Fall 2012-Spring 2013).

The KORD staff currently (2013-2014) includes: Jimmy Walsh (Station Manager), Ellie Beeson (Assistant Station Manager/Campus Representative), Kirsten Lande (Public Relations), Kaia Miller (Public Relations/Social Media), Jessica Demeules (DJ Coordinator/Event Planner), Eleanor Sertich (Music Director), AJ Eckberg (Assistant Music Director), and Jacob Olson (Public Relations/Social Media). The station is available on all Concordia TVs on channel 12. KORD also DJs many Concordia events like the homecoming bonfire and global learning expo. KORD’s goal is to create a relaxed, fun campus, promote learning, and a community, where Concordia students are able to produce a variety of programming, and bring enjoyment to their fellow listeners.
