Introduction
The walk on which you are about to embark represents a brief history of the women involved with music at Concordia College in its early years through the end of the Great Depression. The music department was among the first areas of the college to hire women faculty. They led bands and headed smaller departments such as the piano department, a first at Concordia. The rich musical history of female faculty members and department heads defied the societal norms regarding women in higher education. They took a traditionally female-dominated field and took charge of it. The power which Cobber women exercised in the music department was indeed unique, both on a small and large scale.
