Hello darling:
I guess you’ve been wondering why I haven’t written lately well in case you don’t know I’ve been to the doctor’s most of the time and he had me in bed with my foot tied up in the air. It seems I got a little poison in my foot and made it swell up quite badly. Well it[‘]s getting better now and nothing to worry about. I put my shoe on today so you see it alright. Well so much for that. Darling how are you? Gee I miss you and I wish I could see you but everytime I ask for a furlough he says (no) [sic] and gee I love you so much I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to go AWOL [Absent Without Leave] but
[Page 2]
this army would drive a man to do most anything. The top kick says I might have a chance to get home after the first of July and I said to him I’d like to go the first of June but he said (no soap). I haven't had any letters from you for three days so I hope you still love me and darling don’t worry, I[‘ll] let you know if I’m sick or if I ship out. Darling I got an awful headache to-night [sic] so if you’ll forgive me to-night [sic] for not writing more. I’ll promise to-morrow [sic] to write twice as much. I love you with all my heart and always will. Keep loving me will you? Love
Howard.
