Hello darling:
Well darling I finally got a little time off so I [am] going to write this letter. You see, darling that I’m in a different outfit now so use the new address. It[‘]s almost the same kind of work and it means about another eight months on this side of the ocean anyways. Not that I’m afraid

to go across but it[‘]s safer [on] this side. Gee darling I wish the war was over. Gee if they could beat Germany and the little yellow ------ - ------- [intentionally placed lines to censor words] as easy as they did Italy. Gee if it would happen we wouldn't have any more trouble like me being down here and you way up there. I’m sorry that you haven’t been feeling so good but I told you to see a doctor and you won’t Darling

[Page 3]

I love you so much that when ever [sic] you don’t feel good I feel bad to[o], and darling when or where are we going to end up at? Gee I wish you were here next Saturday night and I had the weekend off. You see there [sic] going to be an excursion on the, “Idlewild.” That [is] the big rig boat[s] and one of the boys that been said it was swell. It has three decks. The first is the check room and the

middle deck is the dance floor and the top deck is the bar. The trip lasts about 4 hours but with you it would be heaven. Yes darling I got my teeth and my watch runs good won here and I love you so much that this war isn’t over pretty soon I’ll go nuts. I say the same as I said to the company commander he asked me where I was going and I told him I didn’t have to go I was just about going crazy. Well darling I love you and on my next furlough and I hope it[‘]s soon we’ll be able to get married. Lot of love

Howard.
