Concerning: The Visitation Restrictions Imposed on the Campus of Concordia College
Whereas,
There has been data accumulated and presented from the 2011
-
2012 academic
year, and it demonstrates
that there are the following sentiments concerning the
policy; and
Whereas,
The results convey overall discontent in the student body, regarding visitation
restrictions; and
Whereas,
Visitation policy is often difficult to enforce
-
890 out of 1273 stude
nts surveyed
either agree or strongly agree that many students they know have broken
visitation restrictions; and
Whereas,
According to Residence Life Director Jasi O’Connor, between 150 and 250
violations are given out per year
-
fewer than one on any gi
ven night
.
Whereas,
In addition to the aforementioned data compiled during the 2011
-
2012 academic
year, data collected from a similar survey from the current 2013
-
2014 academic
year will be presented as well; and
Whereas,
76 percent of correspondents live
on campus; and
Whereas,
86 percent of all correspondents replied that they would choose to live on a floor
without visitation restrictions; and
Whereas,
75 percent of all correspondents replied that living on a floor without visitation
restrictions would i
mprove their Concordia College experience; and
Whereas,
Data collected over the past three years undoubtedly demonstrates that the student
body is in favor of eliminating all visitation restrictions in the pursuit of
developing a campus community that is m
ore responsive to student desires;
therefore be it
RESOLVED
That visitation restrictions be removed from the policy of Concordia College’s
Residence Halls, unless students individually elect such restrictions, in an attempt
to build a community that is res
ponsive to the needs of its students, in an attempt
to improve the overall experience of current students, as well as future Cobbers.
