Hello darling:
How’s everything back home? As for me I think I’m going nuts. I got up this morning at four and had chow at four-thirty then I started my work for the day. That was alright until about ten-thirty when I had to go up to division headquarters from some information. Well I got almost all the way back when one of those crazy W.A.A.C’s [Women’s Auxiliary Corp.] was coming around in a peep and nearly ran over me. Well after that I went and had me a fine dinner: a nice big steak with everything to go with it. Well this afternoon

I had to start and [sic] early to go and check over some shipping tickets on some new trucks that we just got in. That took all afternoon and so I ate again at five-thirty to-night [sic]. Tonight I had to clean up my office and then do a little homework which I couldn't do this afternoon because I was out. Well I just finished that work at nine o’clock and then I fell asleep. My buddy Mike woke me up and told me that first call was at four AM to-morrow [sic] so I’d know what time to get the clock at and it’s a good thing that he woke me up because I wanted to drop you a couple of lines.

As you know I haven’t been writing every day [sic]. Darling it isn’t because I don’t love you it’s because every day there seem[s] to be more and more work to do and I never seem to get caught up. I had a funny thing happen to day [sic]. I was sitting at the desk doing some work when all of a sudden I stopped writing and I looked straight ahead. I was like that for about five minutes when the Sgt. [sergeant] Colin came in and said to me what are you thinking about and all the time I was just sitting in a daze thinking of you, so I told him and he said well I don’t blame you for thinking of the girl back home. Then I said to

him I guess I need a furlough so I can rest up. The army must be working me too hard, but he said you would be worse off when you got back. Ahh well I guess I [will] turn in now and get some sleep. By the way I sent you a pillow case [sic] from Camp Campbell so you could have something from this past. Darling I love you and I can hardly keep my eyes open. Good night darling and keep loving me even if I do feel like a heel some time [sic] for not writing. Lot of love

Howard.
