Sunday Oct. 8, 1944
Dearest darling wife,
Well here it is sunday[sic] and I just came back from church. The chaplain held services in the field today and I guess everybody went. It was a very cold night last night but its [sic] nice and warm now. Darling I want to thank you for the package you sent and everything was swell. What beats me is how did you know what I wanted you to send!
[Page 2]
Yesterday we got the first sgt. to talk about furloughs and maybe it won’t be long before they start releasing some of the men to go and I might be one. Of course it won’t be before the 25th of Oct but it shouldn’t be very long. I’m still hoping that it will be before that but it [sic] kind of useless. I feel pretty good now because I go[t] two letters and a package from you and I know that you still love me. I love to [sic] darling and I miss
[Page 3]
you more all the time.

2 hrs. later
Darling I just came back from a class on current events and after the close the 1st sgt. made the announcement that all men that haven’t had furlough will get them after the 20th of oct so I’m pretty sure Ill be home soon. Roy says to say hello and he [illegible word] and he’ll be glad to get his furlough. I love you darling and I’ll be glad when I can go home and stay. I love you as ever,
Howard
