Dear Yve,
I just got your box of candy and it was swell. I couldn’t be better. It was so thoughtful of you to send if. I knew you wouldn’t forget me. Well here I am just got an injection and my arm is a little stiff. [N]ow I got to start packing my pack for tomorrow is the big day. The pack I got now weighs about 60 pounds but it feels like 600 after the first 6 miles or so. They seem to be pushing the training down hear [sic]. I was talking to an other [sic] guy down here and he said that they didn’t get any hikes with full pack until the 8th or 9th week of training. Well how are you[?] I hope you are well and your better, gain back those 7 pounds that you lost because you will need them.

And an other [sic] thing do don’t worry about me having any of those (personal incounters [sic]) as they call them the because I’m not that kind of guy you ought to know that by now and an other [sic] thing I love you. [illegible deletion] [N]o an the other girl could get nearer than speaking distance with me. I think your [sic] wonderful darling and I hope that you won’t change a bit. Oh you can get a little older but that’s all. I got a cold right now and it don’t feel so good. I guess it[‘]s the change in the temp. [F]rom hot iin the day time [sic] and cold at night. The Fort is located on the top of a mountain. Well I love you and I may seem crazy but I can’t help it I miss you so much I will never leave you again not even for one day. [S]o good night for now darling (i love you) Love
