Dear Yve.

Well here I am all showered and powdered like a new born baby, no kidding darling. I feel swell now. All but one thing I can’t see you and darling I miss you so darn much. Well darling I didn’t do very much to day [sic] except take a trip to town to get some more of those boys that keep coming just to bother us. You know darling I think the army would be better if they let us all go home and have the generals fight the war. Well darling the hill billies have taken off their shoes so

you can see the warm weather has come, because on my way to town I saw a woman and two kids on a porch of one of the houses bare footed. Maybe they’ll become civilized some day, I hope so any way [sic]. Darling did I ever tell you how much I love you. well I wish I could see you because I don’t know how to write what I mean and anyways I want you to know that I do love you anyway I got to iron a shirt in a little while so I’ll say goodnight now. I’m still trying to get a furlough but the first sergeant silli still says no but he’ll weaken yet (I hope). I love you. As Ever

Howard
