Hi darling:
How’s everything? It’s a little on the hot side down here. I think spring is realy [sic] here to stay. One reason I think spring is here is to day [sic] [is] I was and [sic] in the nice warm sunshine and got a little sunburn. Well I guess the furlough is out. I asked the Capt. [Captain] again to day [sic] and he doesn’t seem to think I need any but I do, honest. Even if its [sic] only for a few days. Well how is everything in the old home town? Is [Pamaline?] getting letters from Norman everyday or does he skip a day now and then? I know they keep
[Page 2]
me busy enough. I think some of the reason that I can’t get a furlough is because I got to teach the rifle alone with five other guys in the company. I wish I was home to stay to day [sic]. While firing, a bullet glanced off of a rock and hit a guy in the arm. Nothing too bad though or should I say it could of [sic] been worse. Well darling if I can’t make it now I’ll try the [illegible deletion] last of May. I won’t set any date because I get mad when I set a date and then have to work. I haven’t got anything to write on so I have to stop. Love
Howard.

P.S. I still love you and want to marry you. I love you. [Written at top of second page.]
