This photograph is from 1962 and is of a woman named Sylvia who worked in Madagascar. On her lap is a small girl whom she took care of, named Meline. Sylvia wrote letters to the residents of Park Region, thanking them for the money they raised to help Meline recover from tuberculosis. The dorm of Park Region raised the money as part of the American Lutheran Church (ALC) World Missions tour, to help Americans in need whether it be domestic or international.[1] This picture of Meline and Sylvia encompasses part of the spirit Concordia has. Concordia has a tradition of helping others, from Project CORD which also worked with the ALC to the Hands for Change volunteer work done during Fall Orientation.[2] It brought together the Park Region residents; they look the time to fundraise the money to help Meline. Because of the students' efforts, they made a difference and impacted the world. It goes to show that even though we are in the “Concordia bubble,” we still want to reach out to people in need , even if they're on the other side of the world. Just recently the college and community raised over $500 in cash donations and 300 canned goods which went to the Great plains Food Bank.[3] This picture is  just another example of Concordia striving to give back to both local and distant communities.
