Hello darling:
Well it[‘]s me again and thanks for the box of candy it shure [sic] was swell. I like the kind you make better but I know how things are rationed. Darling don’t think I’m complaining but it[‘]s your fault you started sending me home-made candy. Well darling you were probably wondering why I didn’t write for the last three days. Well it’s because I’ve been out on the carbine [type of pistol] range doing a little firing and I’m telling you it was hot there and I got [a] good sunburn out of it. I only got burned on my face and hands because there [is] are rule in this fort that you have to keep a shirt on all the time. I was out there firing and had a [sic] six shots fired and up came six bullseyes out there. I turned around and saw Major
[Page 2]
watching me and the next two shots I fired missed the target completely, so that’s how things go in the army. Well to day [sic] I got all finished work at six o’clock and decided to take in a show. Well I get to the mess hall and they called my name out to go to school at six-thirty so I didn’t see the show. Well darling I got some very sad news. I won’t be able to get home until September anyway. A division order came and to cancel all furlough[s] until after August 31st and that[‘s] just what it means. I may be in another camp by then and I hope it[‘]s nearer [to] home so when I do get a furlough I’ll be able to spend more time with you. Well darling I got to [sic] go now and get some sleep now. I love and I wish I was there with you. Darling I’ll never be away from you again after this war is won. I love you so much that it hurts. Lots of love. Your loving husband
Howard.
