Hi Beautiful
What[‘]s cooking? I just got your date’s that you sent and they are very good but I still like the brownies the best. Well I just got back from Louisville and I had the best time I’ve had since I’ve been down here. Would you like to hear about it[?] Well it starts out here at home in Knox. Me and (Ed Grube). My buddy left at noon

because it was the first week end [sic] that we had off in three weeks, so when we got off at the corner of 8th St and [illegible deletion], 7th ave we went and had some thing [sic] to eat. [T]hen we ran into a coupele [sic] of boys and they took us out to the Ohio [R]iver and we went swimming. [T]hen he said How would you like to go for a boat ride[?] [Y]ou know how I like boat rides so we went. It was a beautiful boat. Then I went and layed [sic] on the deck of the boat to dry. Then he asked me if I would like to ride the

aqua plane [sic]. One of these things [includes sketch of a aquaplane] that you stand on and the boat pulls you all around. So I did that I went 3 miles down the river on the back of the boat. [T]hen he took me up to his house and we had something to eat (Fried chicken). Sunday we went to church with the family and then we went to the other part of the state to see the famous race trak [sic] and you know (Churchill Downs) where they have the Ky Derby.

[Page 4]

Then they took us home and here I am writing you this letter. Before I forget it I must tell you I just got back from our [illegible word] (march to you) at noon Sat. [W]e walked 15 miles Thursday morn [sic] then we asked to pitch our tents and get ready for chow. Well that was all right [sic] but that night we had to break camp that means to take down the tents and roll our pack in the middle of the night and we had a little march of 4 miles. [T]hen we had to put our tents back up at the end of that march and we had to get

up at 5 o’clock and walk back to the first camping ground to get breakfast. Well we walked about 50 miles in about 2 ½ day. Well that enough of that Darling I love you so very much. I as lonesome as a fish out of water. [I]f I don’t get to go home pretty soon I think I’ll go over the hill (AWOL). I don’t think I[‘]ll be able to go home the first of August nor the middle either but I get there some day [sic] any way [sic] so darling don’t forget me. Why don’t you come down on a vacation we could have a swell time.

[Page 6]

I sure would like to see you. Oh honey I love you all so much. I don’t know what to do with out [sic] you. I loves you all more then you know but if you could see me now I’m a sad case. Your [sic] the only cure for me darling. So I be seeing you if you don’t see me first. I got a letter from my mother to day [sic] and I won’t have time to even write to her till to-morrow [sic]. [S]o darling I love you and I will all ways [sic] love you till the day they kill me. Oh darling I got to see you pretty soon.

[Page 7]

So long darling [illegible deletion] I love you and the best until to morrow [sic]. Love

Howard
