Old Main
KOBB radio initially broadcast from the basement of Old Main. In 1957, Carrol Wallin was the first female on record to be on the executive KOBB Staff. She served as the secretary which is not surprising given the sex-segregated occupations common in 1950s America. The other females involved included Gretchen Gildemester, Annette Ellefson, Ilene Gronaas, Audrey Haustviet, Evonne Beastrom, Verona Quale, Ruby Hansen, and Shirley Haustveit. In 1958, the staff moved their equipment to a studio on the third floor of Old Main. (5) LaNora Leppke was the secretary of 1962, which was still not a lead role. (6) They moved into Brown Hall for a couple of years and then returned back to Old Main in the basement near what was the physics end of the building.
