Camp Campbell, Ky. [Kentucky] Jan 11, 1944 10:10 P.M. Dear Yve: Well I feel all rested up after a good night sleep and am fit for most anything now, and the twenty five mile hike is coming up to-morrow night. We go out in the morning to get used of some more [illegible deletion] battle noises we’ll have mortar fire and maching gun fire over our head’s [sic] to morrow [sic] and lets [page 2] hope they shoot plenty high. Well darling I had a long talk with Kalas and he’s still complaining. He told me all his troubles and now he can sleep. Everything is the same down here except for Ted. I guess he found himself a girlfriend and is now writing her a nice letter. I went in to see the first sgt. and ask him if there was any chance of going to Armored Force school and he said he’d find out for [page 3] me with in [sic] a couple of day. I shure [sic] hope he gets me to go. Darling I’m a changed man now since I’ve got back here. I seem to be more in love with you this time than I was last and I miss you so much that I could never begin to express it on paper. Well darling I [sic] going to leave you for to night [sic] and I hope I hear from you to morrow. I love you and wish I could be with you. So until to morrow Goodnight darling. Love Howard [the following is included as a postscript] I love you
