Camp Campbell, Kentucky
June 20th, 1943
Hello darling:
It shore [sic] am [sic] hot down here to day [sic]. I wish I could go swimming. Darling I got some bad news for you to day [sic] and I might as well tell you about it. I won’t be able to get a furlough until after Aug. [August] 31st that’s a division order and nothing can be done about it. Darling I love you so very much when they told me about not getting home to see you I was going A.W.O.L [absence without leave]. Yve it isn’t that I don’t love you enough to spend six months in the guard house but it would only make things

bad for me when the war is over. I love you so much that I’d spend any time in any guard house just to be with you. Darling you better take your vacation and have a good time but remember I’m just an old fashioned guy and I love you like the devil and more than anything in the world. Darling I stept [sic] out the other night and saw the stage show Hellzapoppin [sic] with Olson and Johnson and I enjoyed it very much. It had some very good acts in it. Well darling I haven’t got much to say except I got a new buddy and his now writing a letter to his wife. His name is Johnson and he stutters. Well darling good night and I hope I’ll see you soon. I love you with all my heart. Lots of love

P.S. When are you coming down to see me?
June 20th, 1943
