Hi darling:
How’s the world treating you? If it[‘]s not treating you alright let me know and I [will] fix it. No kidding darling I sure miss you like the devil. I wish this curse word war was over. Well I had a tough day to day [sic]. I didn’t do anything except get ready for the one star general that came around inspecting all the barracks. He’s a grouchy old duck. I don’t even think the best looking girl in the world could make him smile. Well he came up to me and said how do you like the army life and I asked him if he wanted me to tell the truth and he said yes. Well I told him that if the country didn’t need the services of the young
[page 2]
boys of America, I wouldnt [sic] never [sic] have entered the army. Well the[n] he said that there was a lot of boys like me in this army and then he wished me luck. All the time he was talking to me he never cracked a smile and all the other guys looked on. Let me tell you my face was red and it stayed that way for about an hour after he left. Well that[‘s] my history for the day of March 16th. I wond[er] what the 17th will bring. Its [sic] the day for the Irish so anything can happen. Darling I love you and I missed your letter to-day [sic]. The mail must of [had] a delay in the mail because I know you always write. Darling I love you, love you, love you. Lots of love
Howard.
