Hi [D]earest,
Well I just got off guard and then I had to load some machine gun belts and it is now eight thirty and I [am] going to write you a little note just to tell you how much I love you. Well I’ve been pretty busy lately and haven’t had much time for anything. How is everything with you? You asked me about the watch and I think I told you in a letter that I wrote that it works perfect. Well How’s the weather up there it’s been colder than [illegible] down here and I’ve been wearing my long underwear. That’s something I never did wear in civilian

life but the army changes your ways a little in somethings but they never could change my feelings about you no matter how hard they tried. Well [D]arling when are you coming down to see me? I’m getting lonesome down here all alone but it wouldn’t do you any good to come because you couldn’t get a place to stay and you couldn’t come anyway. Well pay day comes pretty soon and I’ll see what I can do for you this time. Well I got [sic] to get shaved and shower because I haven’t been to bed since I got up Tuesday morning at 5:45 and now it [is] about 8:45 Wednesday night. [W]ell goodnight [D]arling and I love you.
Howard

P.S. Do you still love me???
