Title
Letter to Yvette from Howard, April 9, 1945
Description
[Sarty failed to indicate an exact date, but the above is likely the correct one]
Howard talks about how he is sitting next to a friend trying to decide what to write. He mentions that the food that day was “a mess” and the ration supply hardly shows up anymore. He wishes that the end-of-war mess would get dealt with so he could go home.

Monday
Hello darling,
Well another day and I’m still here. I hope in about a year from now I’ll be home sitting in front of an open fire with you. Jim White [illegible deletion] sitting down here beside me writing to his little red-head and me I can’t think of anything to write. I just finished chow and what a mess they dished out. I bet they couldn’t duplicate it if they tried. Yve, if you can get any cigarettes send me a few. The ration supply never shows up around here any more. I don’t know who gets them but it sure isn’t us, and send some more cookies too. I guess I’ll keep you broke sending me
[Page 2]
stuff, so if I ask for too much let me know then I’ll stop. Say if you don’t hear from me for a few days I’ll be ok. You know this mail busness [sic] get [sic] all mixed up sometimes and you never know when it’ll go through. Gee darling I miss you more to night [sic] than I ever did and I don’t know the reason. I wish this mess would get cleaned up shortly so I could go home. I love you like well you know what. Good night darling and will write soon I only [illegible deletion] wish I could see you instead of write. I love you so very very much. Yours,
Howard
