Dearest darling wife,
I guess I’ve been pretty slow about writing but lately I haven’t had time. Its [sic] a beautiful day today and I have nothing to do for about five hours so I’m trying to catch up on a little writing. A few days ago they called us out to guard a cooking & candy factory and it was just like taking a bunch of kid [sic] to [a] candy store and let [sic] them loose so they could do anything they wanted. Then to day [sic] they got us guarding a suppose [sic] to be castle which

is very nice work if you can get it. Darling you know if you asked me what to do I’d tell you to go see a doctor about your [illegible] but by the time you get this letter you will probably be over your troubles or gone to the doctor anyway. I know it [sic] a kinda bad thing to have. I hope I get a letter from you to-day! [sic] The way we keep moving we’re lucky to get mail once a week. I got a package from mom [sic] the other day and I hope they keep coming because I can always eat. You remember how I’m always hungry in the morning and at night before bedtime well the war will never change that. I just ate dinner and I’m hungry now, Of course

the dinner I had came in a can. Gee what I wouldn’t do for a nice steak dinner with french fried spuds and of course you sitting accross from me. It would be like old times. Well darling I got to close now and drop mom a not[e] but I’ll write every chance I get. I love you very much darling and I’m tired of this war. As Ever,

Howard

P.S. I love you more and please send another package of something to eat.
