I love you very much and I received my watch yesterday and it runs perfect. Everything is perfect except the fact that I’m down here and you [are] so far away. I was going to write to you last night and thank you for sending the watch but we had classes until 11:00 o’clock last night and I was very tired. Darling I’m glad that you still care a little for me because I sure have a warm feeling for you. Well [D]arling I went to town Sunday and what a

lousy place. You see I tried another town. [T]he name was Clarksville. Well I got there and went to a show. I couldn’t even get a cup of coffee. Its [sic] getting bad down here you go out of camp and you can’t buy anything to eat, and don’t think they don’t ration the food in the army camp. Well so much for that. I got that picture of you on the shelf and the guy that sleeps on the lower bunk wants to know if it all [illegible deletion] [is] alright to put his girl[‘s] picture up there to [sic] so I said yes. I didn’t think you would mind. Well [D]arling good night [sic] for now. Lots of love
Howard
P.S. I love you more everyday.
P.S. I hope you can read this. I know it [is] getting bad.
