There was a time when American women's only duty was that of motherhood. But since the nineteenth century when they gradually started to enter the job market, women have had to make a choice between motherhood and work. To many women, combining the two seemed rather complicated, or even impossible. Even though some employers considered working mothers as intruders who belonged in the home with their children, the number of mothers taking up jobs continues to grow. [1] The increasing number of two-career households, especially since the end of World War II, [2] has created a need and desire for childcare. This need on a national level is also reflected in the development of child care services at Concordia College.
