Loye Johnson broadcasting in 1959

In 1959, KOBB radio’s location shifted from Old Main to Brown Hall, a move prompted by a desire to reach more students. (7) The first evidence of Cobber women broadcasting can be seen in a 1959 image of Loye Johnson at the microphone. (8) In the US during the late fifties and early sixties, females were not being hired for broadcasting companies other than for specific women’s shows and weather girls. A '60s Time article was published about women getting stuck with secretarial roles and being discouraged from moving up in the broadcasting companies. (9) In 1961, for unknown reasons, the KOBB team moved back into the basement of Old Main. (10) Concordia's station was a little ahead of its time by having women involved.
